So, Master key system can sound very terrifying definition, So if you own a commercial business Or for some reason you ever had the need for a commercial locksmith in order to create a master key system and you didn’t really know how this type of system works  … today guys I’m going to share with you some knowledge about it!

In order to simplify everything and to see how master key system works , let’s imagine that we own a small local hotel .

There are a few people who are present at this hotel :

⁃       1 Owner (us)
⁃       1 Hotel manager
⁃       1 hotel housekeeper
⁃       4 guests

We do agree that each one of the 4 guest should have his own room access correct ?
OK , each one of this guests carry a room key and that key in the locksmith field called :

CHANGE KEY – a  key which operates only one cylinder or a group of keyed alike cylinders in a master key system.

So far we have 4 guests – 4 changes keys  ! EACH CHANGE KEY OPENS ONE GUEST ROOM LOCK AND CAN NOT OPEN THE OTHER 3 guests rooms we have in the building .

As we mentioned before there is a housekeeping to This hotel Which needs to have an access to all of those 4 rooms in order to clean and organize them .
The housekeeping employee Will have a key that called in the Locksmith field :

II MASTER KEY – A key which operates all master keyed locks or cylinders in , a group each lock or cylinder usually operated by its own change key .
The name of that system will be a master key system. ( MK ) .

Hold on ! We are not done .
Don’t forget about the hotel manager , his key will open the 4 guest rooms we talked about and his office ( which obviously we don’t want the guests or the housekeeping employ will have an access to it ) .

The hotel manage Will have a key that called in the Locksmith field :

I GRAND MASTER KEY – The key which operates 2 or more separate groups of locks which are each operated by a different master key .
The name of that system will be a grand master key system. ( GMK )

The last one is us – the hotel owner .
We want to have an access to all 4 guests rooms , hotel manager office , and also our hotel owner office ( which only we will have the access to it ) .
The hotel owner (us) Will have a key that called in the Locksmith field :

III GREAT GRAND MASTER KEY –
The key which operates 2 or more separate groups of locks which are each operated by a different grand master key .
The name of that system will be a great grand master key system. ( GGMK ) .

You can go on and on with this system and make it more accessible to more groups of locks and keys .

It is very important to have a professional knowledgeable skilled Commercial locksmith to this type of service unless it will creates problems with the master key system organization .
In addition a good commercial Locksmith should know by heart the mechanism of the lock in the way it needs to be rekey to the key .
